Bad Gastein
Overview
Bad Gastein is the biggest settlement in the Gastein Valley, sharing with Bad Hofgastein and Dorfgastein. One single ski pass grants access to three resorts, sharing a total of five main skiing areas. Lift-linked with slightly smaller Bad Hofgastein, they collectively make up one of the largest lift-linked areas in Austria. A year-round population of 15,000 helps to create a buzzing Austrian atmosphere in the ski resort, welcoming to both groups and families. A popular destination for the non-skiers, prepare to be pampered in one of the many luxurious spas and glamorous boutiques.
Skiing in Bad Gastein
Ski Austria! Part of the Gastein skiing area, the skiing area is centred on Bad Gastein. The beginner courses from the ski school start on Sunday and Monday mornings, meeting in front of the Schneesportschule Gastein. The nursery slopes are at village level next to the gondola base station, or alternatively up the mountain if the snow coverage isn’t great. Intermediates will find the longest and best runs on the Stubnerkogel mountain and the Angertal Ski centre. There is also a wider lift-pass called the Ski Amada which covers the Gastein Valley and its surrounding areas. The area’s highest skiing, Sportgastein, has the best terrain for advanced skiers, try the 4k descent down from the Goldberg lift.
Snowboarding in Bad Gastein
This area predominately favours intermediate freeriders looking to hoon it down the mountain, there’s a great selection on Dorfgastein. The pipe and park are over in this area too.
