Hochgurgl

Overview

Tyrolean village Hochgurgl is gondola linked to neighbouring resort Obergurgl. Situated up high in the Otz Valley, the high altitude guarantees snow for skiing holidays throughout the winter season. The very laid-back skiing area has car-free zones, perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle we are all too familiar with. Open from November to May, Hochgurgl and neighbouring Obergurgl are the first skiing resorts in Austria to open for the season. A fairytale-like resort, Hochgurgl has many ski in/ski out places to stay on offer. The family owned restaurants sit alongside pretty luxurious four star hotels.

Skiing in Hochgurgl

When coupled with Obergurgl, the Hochgurgl skiing area gives access to 110km of downhill skiing served by 24 ski lifts in total. There is a handy gondola that interlinks the two resorts that only takes 9 minutes to travel between resorts. If you’re going on a snowboarding holiday to Hochgurgl you will find that the freeriding terrain is just slightly better than Obergurgl.  There is excellent steep off- piste fresh powder terrain crossing over both resorts that can be ridden at speed.
