Scheffau
Overview
Scheffau is a pretty chocolate-box Tyrolean village situated at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser mountain. Based between Ellmau and Soll, it's a more traditional village rather than a tourist resort. Part of Austria's largest lift-linked skiing area, the Ski Welt, the ski resort is ideal for couples or those going on a family skiing holiday. The very friendly village is welcoming and has an inviting alpine charm feel.
Skiing in Scheffau
Lift- linked to neighbouring resorts Brixen im Thale, Ellmau, Going, Hopfgarten, Itter and Soll, Scheffau is part of the Ski Welt region and acts a perfect starting spot every morning for your exciting days of skiing. The snow conditions here are renowned for being good as the resort is placed just below a large north-facing snowbowl. Beginners will find gentle green slopes at the top of the village gondola to build confidence on. Intermediates will be embarking on a big adventure as they have 250km of pisted runs served by 93 ski lifts to get to grips with. Expert skiers will have lots of off-piste to play on, for example the Moderer run can offer excellent powder and mammoth moguls if you fancy feeling the buzz from the mountains. The ‘KinderKaiserland’ is a ski area specially made for children to enjoy as they begin their friendship with the snow. Scheffau also tends to be a starting point for locals on day trips given the large car parks at the bottom of the main gondola.
Snowboarding in Scheffau
Scheffau acts as a fantastic base to seek out some perfect snowboarding terrain. Ellmau, which is just a snowball’s throw away, is home to two excellent terrain parks. One for beginner-intermediate, and the other for intermediate-advanced, something for every ability! For some good freeriding terrain try the Hohe Salve mountain above Soll.
Apres in Scheffau
The après scene here is at the quieter end of the scale, although it still features a handful of good bars and restaurants to visit. If you are going on a group ski holiday and would like some nightlife, it’s easy enough to hop on the shuttle bus that takes you nearby lively Ellmau, which has a fantastic après scene.
Accommodation in Scheffau
A lot of the main accommodation is over the main highway from the lifts, as this is the sunnier side of the valley, important for those long dark winters! Although there is not a lot of accommodation or facilities for skiing holidays near to the lifts, it's still one of the prettiest resorts in the Ski Welt skiing area. There is a good taxi and bus service, so staying in Scheffau won't hamper your enjoyment of the area. Familes and groups will feel enchanted on skiing holidays to Scheffau.
