Hinterglemm
Overview
Hinterglemm is really a satellite ski resort of Saalbach, the two ski villages have only a short distance between them, sharing the large linked 'Ski Circus' ski area. Hinterglemm skiing holidays tend to be slightly lower key than Saalbach for night-life, but there are still some traditional bars to have relax with a post-skiing beer. Based in a Cul-de-Sac, the well spaced layout of the neighbouring ski resorts gives easy accessibility to the pistes. This small family-friendly resort has everything you need to make the most of your big skiing holiday.
Skiing in Hinterglemm
The ‘Ski Circus’ skiing area interlinks fantastic resorts Hinterglemm, Saalbach and Leogang. It's basically a large circuit of linked pistes and lifts, allowing skiers and boarders to go either clockwise or anti-clockwise around. The 200km of downhill pisted skiing spead across 60 individual pistes are served by a slick lift system of 52 ski lifts. Pistes tend to be wide making the whole area great for both beginners and intermediates. Beginners won’t have to go far to flourish as the wide nursery slopes are conveniently placed next to the village.The lift layout is pretty straightforward, so intermediates can swoop around the mountain easily.
Thrill-seekers will love the off-piste opportunities here. The north-facing Zwolferkogel has a serious black mogul run for you to bump down. If you’re looking for Cross Country skiing there are some good trails between Reiterkogel and Rosswaldhutte.
Apres in Hinterglemm
The après activity in the area is pretty good too. It’s at the livelier end of the scale in Saalbach, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have fun on a Hinterglemm skiing holiday. There is an eclectic mix of Europeans in the local bars, and the fun normally starts late afternoon and runs right through to the small hours of the morning.
Snowboarding in Hinterglemm
Snowboarding in Hinterglemm, you’ll find plenty of fresh powder to make fresh tracks on covering lots of backcountry for all abilities. If you’re looking for some dips try the picturesque tree-lined Polten in Leogang. Whilst you’re there visit the super-cool ‘Nitro’ board park, packed with rails to glide down. There is a good chill out area for you to relax in whilst you watch other boarders in action.
Accommodation in Hinterglemm
As hotels, gasthofs and apartment complexes move up the valley, there is no really not a lot of difference between Hinterglemm and Saalbach. Both resorts have several luxury hotels, and cheaper accommodation can be found at the edges of the resort and down the valley. Accommodation in Hinterglemm tends to be ideal for those looking for a cheap ski holiday as there are lots of self-catered apartments, Saalbach has more hotels but Eclipse Ski has amazing ski deals to suit any budget….
