Skiing in Mayrhofen
The local skiing takes place on two separate plateaux, the Penken and the Ahorn, granting a substantial 146km to play with on your Mayrhofen skiing holiday. Uplift in the morning is one of two main gondolas, which can cause queues in high season, or get on the public transport system to ski other areas. The Penken is the larger area of the two, although both are superbly groomed and covered well by spraying snow canons. Ahorn is great for beginners with its gentle nursery slopes, whilst the layout of the slopes give intermediates endless opportunities to explore. Advanced thrill seekers should head to Penken ‘Devil’s Run’ linked to the Horborg mountain. Everybody knows the early bird catches the worm - one hot tip is to head to Korren first thing in the morning as that’s the first place to catch the sun!
Mayrhofen is in the centre of the Zillertal skiing area, giving access to a colossal 625km! The lift pass gives access to neighbouring resorts Zell am Ziller, Gerlos, Koningsleiten and the popular snow-sure Hintertux glacier. The 150 lifts and free bus service make it easy to discover the tremendous variety of terrain out there.

If you’re going snowboarding in Mayrhofen, the first thing you need to know about is the Burton board park, bang in the centre of the resort! Get excited as the park is a snowboarder’s paradise of kickers, rails and an excellent half-pipe. Included in your Zillertal lift pass, we recommend taking the short hop over to Kaltenbach for the usually secret untracked powder after a dump, because although no one else bothers, it is 100% well worth the trip.
