Borovets

Overview

Borovets is Bulgaria's largest and most established skiing town. Fighting against Bansko to be the ultimate Bulgarian skiing holidays destination, it's a top ski resort for beginner skiers or snowboarders, those seeking a family skiing holiday or bargain hunters looking for a cheap skiing deal.

Skiing in Borovets

The resort is quite spread out, so you often need to hop on a short bus to get to the slopes. At 1300m in the Rila Mountains, Borovets has 58kms of downhill pisted runs up to altitudes of 2,500 metres above sea level. Known for its late season skiing holidays, it’s best to go from February onwards and the best snow is in April. Spread across 3 alpine tree-laden skiing areas, Borovets is a very pretty place to ski. Beginners should book themselves in with the internationally recognised Borovets Ski School, which has over 200 ski instructors. A hot tip from Eclipse Ski is that a Borovets red run is equal to a normal (and nice) French blue run, so don’t be put off by all the red runs on the piste map. For advanced skiers there is the Peter Popanguelov Ski School for expert skiing with excellent instructors for those who want to be the next Graham Bell.

Snowboarding in Borovets

The terrain here mainly suits the beginner or intermediate freerider. The pretty tree-lined runs are a pleasure to ride down and there is a decent well-maintained half-pipe.

Apres in Borovets

If you’re looking to have a party-time on a shoe-string in the mountains, Borovets has lots of lively bars and a great après scene. Spirits and beer are particularly cheap, and nightclubs stay open until 4am. Eating out is also very reasonable. There are some Bulgarian folk evenings on offer for those looking to experience some local culture to write home about.

Accommodation in Borovets

Borovets is only a 90 minute transfer from the Bulgarian airport and capital Sofia. The friendly atmosphere makes it ideal for family, group and couple skiing. For those looking for cheap skiing deals, check out Eclipse Ski’s Bulgarian skiing holidays on offer.
