Skiing in Morzine

Even though Morzine is situated at 1,000 metres above sea level, don’t let it put you off this popular skiing holiday destination. With access to the massive Portes du Soliel 650km skiing area, mostly 2,000 metres above sea level, the low altitude of the resort isn’t a problem. Beginners on their skiing holidays will flourish on the nursery slopes, green runs and blue runs. Whilst intermediates will have an endless selection of pisted runs to whizz around the mountain on, advanced serious skiers will like the off-piste fields. To get the adrenaline pumping, head to the world-famous ‘The Swiss Wall,’ not for the faint-hearted, it’s full of mammoth moguls to ski down.

Morzine itself has a gondola to take you up to the wealth of possibilities. There are some fantastic tree-lined runs to swoop down near the bottom that bring you back down to the d’Ardent gondola. Neighbouring purpose-built Avoriaz is easy to ski to. Here, you’ll find pistes between the buildings, meaning you either have to walk over the snow or take a fun sleigh ride when you’re not skiing around the wooden clad ski-in/ski-out accommodation. The pistes over towards posh ‘chocolate-box’ resort Chatel have some fantastic sweeping reds, and why not head even further afield to have lunch in some of the linked Swiss resorts such as Les Crosets or Morgins? The Les Gets part of the Portes du Soliel skiing area has skiing up to 2,020m. The village has retained a lot of its Savoyard charm over the centuries and is ideal for family ski holidays.

Snowboarding in Morzine

Snowboarding in Morzine is of a decent standard. There are a few long flats where you will feel the burn, avoid the blues and stick to the red runs coming back over from Switzerland and you should have a fantastic ride over the mountain. There are also some good boardparks scattered around, such as a super pipe in Avoriaz and jumps in Les Gets.

Apres in Morzine

Apres in Morzine is relaxed and friendly, but also boasts some lively bars and clubs in the evenings if that’s what you’re looking for. Fancy something different whilst you’re away? Eclipse Ski’s hot tip is to order the French traditional dish ‘Pierrade’ at ‘Le Etale’ restaurant on the main strip. You are given an all-you-eat selection of fresh meat to cook yourself at the table, fun mixed with food, everyone can get involved. The atmosphere is great, but make sure you reserve a table as it gets busy every night. If you fancy a few drinks afterwards, the Coyote Bar next door is always lively and serves great toffee vodka! Dixie Bar, Le Crepuscule and the discotheques are also lively spots.

Accommodation in Morzine

Due to its low altitude, skiing holidays to Morzine are excellent value for money. There are some posh hotels which are popular for weekend ski breaks. Although the slopes of Avoriaz are considered superior by some, it’s very easy to ski over to them and Morzine offers great ski travel deals. Overall, it’s still a highly rated resort due to its location and atmosphere, making it a popular choice for family or group ski holidays.
