Home to winter sports for over a century, the cosy ski holiday village hasn't lost any of its elegance or over-expanded. One of Italy's highest resorts, its snow-sure slopes surround the charming alpine village. Part of the impressive Milky Way skiing area, the resort offers superb skiing combined with an ample variety of runs. So many in fact, you'll struggle to ski them all in just a week.
Skiing in Claviere
Beginner skiers will find their perfect slopes fanned out just above the resort with the meeting point in the ski resort centre. There is a cheaper lift pass available as virgin skiers/boarders will only need a limited amount of slopes for first-timer skiing holidays. Intermediates will find it easy to get over to Sestriere where they’ll be happy to find everything from moguls through to big wide open pistes. For a bit of fun why not attempt the Mount Sises World Cup and World Championship giant slalom run. It’s quite steep in the beginning at 2600m but descends into flatter terrain followed by another exciting vertical. Expert skiers will also like the off-piste from Valle Ripa and Vallone del Chisonetto.
Snowboarding in Claviere
Snowboarding in Claviere is very good. You can easily board between Claviere and French neighbour, Montgenevre and the Milky Way skiing area. New speedy chairlifts have been installed around Via Lattea making life on a board particularly easy. There is even a snowboard park and half pipe to play on in this resort, making a Claviere ideal for a snowboarding and skiing mixed group ski holiday.
Accommodation in Claviere
The mixture of new and old buildings make accommodation in Claviere fantastic value for money. Largely hotel based, the resort is typically what you would expect from Italy, plus very friendly locals. The vibe here is relaxed and almost serene, serious partying isn’t really on the agenda but there are still some good bars if you fancy having a few in the evenings.
