Livigno

Overview

High altitude skiing holidays based close to the Italian-Swiss border in the breathtaking Valtellina valley, Livigno has access to one of the largest skiing areas in its region. Based on three original villages called San Antonio, Santa Maria and San Rocco spread along a single 10km road, it's Europe remotest resort. The duty-free/tax free haven is ideal for those seeking to access some excellent pistes whilst on a budget skiing holiday.

Skiing in Livigno

Part of the Alta Valtellina skiing area, Livigno has access to 110km of pisted runs which reach up to 2,800m. It has an excellent snow record, long season and some long blue and red runs. The valley is separated by the village, splitting the ski area in two, ski lifts take you up either side to the slopes. Beginner slopes are situated next to the village, served by long drag lifts that run parallel to the resort. The terrain higher up consists of mainly wide sun facing ski slopes. Intermediates will want to seek out slopes accessed by the Carosello 3000 ski lift located at the southern end of the resort. Expert skiers will find the most testing blacks from the peaks of Monte Della Neve, which can be accessed by the Mottolino gondola. Advanced skiers can purchase the Alta Valtellina 6 day area pass, which includes 2 days skiing in the Swiss Engdin region, granting access to other ski resorts such as glitzy St Moritz.

Snowboarding in Livigno

The slopes here are well-suited for freeriding and freestyling. By walking up either side of the valley for half an hour, you can access some magnificent views and superb open powder fields. The main boardpark can be found on Carosello and features a decent boardercross. Eclipse Ski recommends remembering to wear your helmet, for safety, but also as they are compulsory in the terrain parks here.
