Milky Way

Overview

Skiing holidays to the Milky Way circuit encompass resorts Bardonecchia, Sauze d'Oulx, Claviere, Pragelato, Sestriere, Sanscario and Cesana. The mostly-Italian ski area also encompasses French resort Montgenevre. Staging the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, Sestriere has helped to put the Milky Way in an even more favourable position. The picturesque Piedmont region is known for its big wide open pistes and north-facing sunny skiing. With only an hour-long transfer from Turin airport, the Milky Way is ideal for weekend ski breaks and family ski holidays.

The skiing here is a considerable 400km of pisted runs spread across 140 runs. With a skiing altitude of 1350m-2800m, the snow-secure slopes are surrounded by stunning scenery. The area is a mecca for beginners, with about 25% of terrain dedicated to newbies, particularly in Sestriere and Montgenevre. The remaining terrain satisfies the needs of the mile-hungry intermediate and thrill-seeking advanced skier! Expert skiers will love Bardonecchia’s Jeffrau steep run or the winter-wonderland larch trees above Claviere and Cesana.

With arguably the most challenging terrain, après town Sestriere is at the highest altitude along the circuit. The world class downhill racing run, the Kanadahar is said to be the most difficult. Head to medieval Sauze d’Oulx for tree-lined runs and the liveliest apres on the circuit. The ski accommodation dotted around the resorts is ideal for couples, group and family skiing holidays. Montgenevre probably has the best cheap ski deals, it’s a cheap ticket to a phenomenal exciting ski area. Find your perfect skiing holiday on the Milky Way ski circuit today!
