Skiing in Saalbach
The Ski Circus is basically a large circuit of linked pistes and lifts, allowing skiers and boarders to go either clockwise or anti-clockwise around. The magnificent ski area has a variety of pistes and a slick lift system interconnecting Saalbach, Hintergelmm and Leogang. The area is big, covering 200km of downhill skiing, 60 individual pistes served by 52 ski lifts. The ski area is great for mixed ability groups. Beginners will find their gentle wide nursery slopes in the centres of the villages, helpfully close to the town for a snack pit stop. Intermediates will be busy darting around the valley as the layout of the lifts makes life extremely easy, how it should be on a fun ski holiday! Advanced and expert skiers have 100km of off-piste to tackle, remember to take a guide for the best spots! Try the north-facing Zwolferkogel with its 3km serious black mogul run running beneath the lift. Cross country skiers have 12km of trails including a good 1.7km run between Reiterkogel and Rosswaldhutte.
Apres in Saalbach
If you’re looking for great après, Saalbach is the place for you. End of the day drinking normally starts from late afternoon when your legs are asking for a rest (that’s our excuse anyway!), just above Saalbach village in the bars on the mountains. There’s an inviting mix of European skiers with Dutch, Scandinavians, Germans and of course Brits on their skiing holidays. After dinner, there are plenty of bars and nightclubs for getting your dancing shoes on.
Snowboarding in Saalbach
Snowboarding in Saalbach, you’ll find plenty of fresh powder to freeride down on. Off-piste is easy to find for all levels, for a nice cruise down try the run down from the peaks of Reiterkogel and Bernkogel down to the Wetterkreuz chair lift. If you fancy some dips try tree lined Polten in Leogang. Whilst you’re there check out the ‘Nitro’ board park, packed with rails to glide down. There is always something to see, and a small area to relax and watch everyone else.
Accommodation in Saalbach
Facilities are good in both resorts with plenty of eating, dining and drinking options. Both Hinterglemm and Saalbach resorts have several luxury hotels, and cheaper accommodation can be found at the edges of the resort and down the valley. Accommodation in Saalbach tends to be hotel orientated but Eclipse Ski has amazing deals to suit any budget….
