Best family friendly ski resorts

Alpine Ski Resort At Night, Winter Scenery, Livigno, Italy

Family ski holidays are on the increase and when holidaymakers are choosing which ski resort to choose they want a family-friendly one. Self catering holidays are popular with families it helps to keep the cost down and you find the apartments or chalets are very well equipped. By renting an apartment or chalet you don’t need to go out every evening as you can eat indoors and relax in comfort, it’s basically a home away from home. If you can pick an apartment block that has a swimming pool it’s a great way of keeping your children of all ages entertained. If the apartments don’t have such facilities many of the hotels will have for a small fee.

Here are my top 4 ski resorts which are family friendly:

La Rosiere

La Rosiere is particularly suitable for young children and in this resort it’s possible to hire baby carriers, car seats and buggies. Most of the apartments and chalets are in the centre of the village making shops easily accessible. Meeting points and ski lifts are also central to the village so no little darlings uttering the immortal words “are we there yet” on the way to the slopes. This lovely family friendly resort has added a new facility for this seasons opening, it’s called the Petit-Saint-Bernard Funcross. This is 1km of fun track which the young will love it’s filled with tunnels, gongs and modules and apparently adults will love it too. Again this new feature is ideally situated under the chair lift of Plan du Repos.

Les Carroz

This resort is absolutely ideal for families and fist time visitors to skiing. It’s not all about skiing as there is an indoor swimming pool and spa with excellent facilities where one can take time out and be pampered. If you love to ski and like to be challenged, you can ski at the linked area of Flaine which offers a vast ski area for the ultimate experience. This wonderful resort has also been awarded the Famille Plus Montagne because of its excellent facilities for children and the nursery slopes in the centre of the village offer play slopes and sledging for the young members of the family.

Samoens

This resort has a great array of facilities including shops, bars and restaurants. Indoor pools are in most complexes and some spa facilities are available. In the main centre there is an ice rink in the village and at Samoens 1600 there is one of the biggest nursery slopes in the area. Cable cars take you up to the slopes where you won’t find very busy pistes.

Tignes 1800

Tignes 1800 is ideal for families with all amenities close at hand from markets, restaurants, ski hire shops and even a crèche. Most of the self catering holidays will have access to a swimming pool and possibly a games room where it’s safe for children to get together. Tignes 1800 is linked to the Tignes – Val d’Isère ski area by lifts and pistes and this area is quieter which suits families better. Families are not usually looking for a vibrant après ski location therefore Tignes 1800 is ideal for them.

If you are partial to skiing, why not consider investing in a ski property? The rental potential is excellent and you can rent your property out when not using it yourself. More often than not families prefer to rent as it’s more cost effective for them and enjoying a day on the slopes is more important than après ski. Ski apartments and chalets are currently for sale now.
