An authentic Austrian feeling combined with surrounding majestic views over the Wilder Kaiser, the picturesque ski village boasts a friendly atmosphere and highly-rated skiing holidays suitable for all ages and abilities. The Tyrolean style of ski chalets and charming churches make this village a great choice for your family or group ski holiday. Part of the ‘Ski Welt’ ski area, you will be spoilt for choice with the largest ski area in Austria!
Skiing in Ellmau
Ellmau has easily accessible ski lifts. Beginners will find nursery slopes and kindergarten at village level for perfecting those turns, nice and close to their cosy ski chalet, hotel or apartment. There is another area just a short hop away at the top of the funicular and the local Ellmau ski schools are tip top too. Intermediates will be kept busy with a multitude of pisted blue and red slopes – we think you’ll struggle to ski them all. Advanced skiers and boarders looking for an adrenaline rush will find it at the top of Hohe Salve and Soll, just a short hop away yet still in the Ski Welt region. Ellmau itself has 50km of pisted down-hill slopes, but further afield the Ski Welt area has 250km in total to get stuck into. The area includes popular resorts of Soll, Sheffau and Westendorf along with quieter Itter, Going, Brixen and Hopfgarten. Its snow making system is the biggest in Austria, covering 80% of the pistes. There is a good local ski bus service, however snow permitting you should be able to ski right back to the village anyway.
Snowboarding in Ellmau
If you’re snowboarding in Ellmau, try and tackle the Ski Welt area. One particularly nice run starts at Brandstadl and runs down to Scheffau. Freestylers should head towards the Hohe Salve pistes just perched above Soll and freeriders will find the best board park with half pipes in the Westendorf which is a short bus ride away from Brixen.
